1 Web design and online, public writing terms

This project will be ongoing throughout the course of the semester. Each student will provide a minimum of two entries, but can provide a maximum of four (two for extra credit). Only one entry per month is allowed (meaning you cannot submit all four in April at the last minute). Each entry should adhere to the following criteria: 200-250 words, must relate to a concept/reading from the course (unless given instructor permission), at least one relevant link, an example or illustration, and your name.

CRAP Model: Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, & Proximity

These are the four basic principles of design. The principle of contrast tells us to contrast various elements of the piece to draw the reader's eye to the page. If two items are not exactly the same, make them different. Really different. The principle of repetition tells us to repeat some aspect of the design throughout the entire piece. It can be anything that a reader will visually recognize. The principle of alignment states that nothing should be placed on the page arbitrarily. Every item should have a visual connection with something else on the page. The principle of proximity tells us to group related items together. Move them physically close to each other so the related items are seen as one cohesive group rather than a bunch of unrelated bits. Emily Gillo
